Follow these steps:

a)Plug the iPod Nano into the computer using the Nano's USB cable.

b)Click on the 'Start' menu, select 'All Programs' and choose 'Windows Media Player.'

c)Click the 'Sync' button on the menu. Windows Media Player shows the iPod Nano in the top right corner as the device to transfer music to.

d)Click and drag files from the music library in the middle of the screen to the 'Sync List' area on the right where it says 'Drag items here.' Drag songs individually or by entire albums or artists. Select specific songs from an album list by holding down the 'CTRL' key while selecting songs and then dragging one of the highlighted items to the Sync List.

e)Click the 'Start Sync' button beneath the Sync List to start syncing. When the sync process finishes, disconnect the iPod Nano from the computer.

Thanks for your info.friend but I still cant get anything on my Windows Media Player that says anything other than 'connect a device' no matter what I try! When I disconnect then re-connect it still says the same. When I first connect my iPod from a boot it de-faults to iTunes.If I go to 'My Computor' and look it states the iPod as 'Drive K' then vanishes when it syncs. and goes onto iTunes.There are NO greyed out buttons to suggest 'Transfer'-Record-Transfer' or any other info to transfer from computor onto the iPod. My default player is Windows Media Player but it just will not recognise the device at all. It appears that the iTunes is purely a player/shop to purchase items.

Hello, friend. As I know, windows media player is not compatible with iPod Nano, you need to use iTunes sync music to your iPod Nano. If your songs are in windows media player, you can follow this guide to transfer the songs from windows media player to iTunes, and then sync the music to your iPod through iTunes.

My computer doesn't even acknowledge the fact that my iPod is connected. The screen of my iPod has the connected sign and says connected, but my Windows Media Player says connect a device when I try to sync it. Anybody?

You need to download and install iTunes, WMP does not work with ipods.

In doing research on the topic, I found that software can be downloaded to make the nano compatible with wmp ( I am dealing with the same issue). The page I was looking at mentioned that you need either wmp 11 or 12. I will keep you posted... in the process of finding the webpage now.

Most of us store music in two places: on our computer and on our iPod (or other MP3 player). But if your computer crashes indefinitely, all the music you (hopefully) purchased disappears along with it. So what's left? A handicapped iPod, as Apple restricts its gadgets to sync with one music library--any attempts to sync with a different computer will result in a deleted iPod.

Naturally, there's a workaround. If you'd like to safely move songs from your iPod (except the iPod Touch) to any computer, follow these steps:

How to transfer music from an iPod to a Mac
Step 1: Connect your iPod and launch iTunes. In the iPod management screen, scroll down to Options and check 'Enable disk use.' iTunes will give you a warning--select OK.

Step 2: Now your iPod will show up as a drive on your Desktop. But before you can access its files, download and install a program called Houdini. Houdini lets you view the music folder that's automatically hidden by Apple.

Step 3: Open Houdini, click 'Folders,' and then 'Reveal.' Locate your iPod, and open 'iPod_controls.' Highlight 'Music,' and press Choose.

Step 4: Now in your iPod folder, open iPod_Controls > Music. Highlight all of the folders and drag them into the desired folder on your hard drive. This might take a while, depending on how much music you're transferring.

Once the files are copied, you've successfully transferred the music. However, you'll notice that the songs have four-letter names and are scattered among many folders. It's OK. Once you import the music into iTunes (or any other media player), the program will reinstate the titles of the songs.

How to transfer music to an iPod to a Windows computer
Step 1: Connect your iPod and launch iTunes. In the iPod management screen, scroll down to Options and check 'Enable disk use.' iTunes will give you a warning--select OK.

Note: If you get an error message asking you to reformat upon connecting, your iPod was originally formatted for Mac and cannot be used in Windows. One workaround is to install a program like MacDrive, which will allow your Windows machine to read Mac-formatted drives. Clicking 'reformat' will erase your iPod.

Step 2: Now open My Computer and open your iPod drive.

Step 3: Open Tools > Folder Options. Click the View tab and check 'Show hidden files and folders.'

Step 5: Highlight all of the folders again, right-click, and select Properties. Uncheck 'Hidden.' Close this window.
